St. Joseph, Missouri
The start of the journey

The "Welcome" sign outside of St. Joseph, Missouri. Just as the Pony Express began in St. Joe, so did our trip.

The city limits of St. Joseph.

The "Pony" is everywhere in St. Joe -- this emblem is embedded on a hill along a main highway in town. (Unfortunately, there's no place to stop and get a good picture -- this was the best result of SEVERAL passes through the area!)

Another "Pony" sighting.

St. Joseph history.

The first westbound rider left from this site on April 3, 1860.

The Pony Express Museum, established in the original stables that housed the Pony Express in 1860-1861.

Another "Pony" sighting -- a mural just behind the museum.

The stable doors would be opened wide when another rider took off on a run.

The huge statue commemorating the Pony Express in the central square, downtown St. Joseph.

A stone mural on a building behind the Pony statue.

A Pony Express commemorative plaque outside of Patee House.

Outside of Patee House -- The hotel was built in 1858 and was considered to be one of the classiest hotels outside of the large eastern cities. It housed the headquarters of the Pony Express.

On to the wilds of Kansas
